Jam This – Snarky Puppy – Binky

The jam for this week is by Snarky Puppy. I know I post alot from these guys, but I’m in this spot right now trying to find music that taps in to my imagination. The composition of Snarky songs just happen to take me there pretty consistantly.

This time I’m bringing you “Binky”. It’s a feel good, up-tempo song with Snarky’s trade mark soaring horns and super smart rhythm section. I LOVE Michael Leagues’s use of synth and moog in just about everything he does, but for sure in this song. Try to let this one take you some where.

Music Scene Live – Live performance/Interview

I was very fortunate to be apart of a really cool radio show called “Music Scene Live” last month in Ft.Worth. We had to drive through multiple baricades and dozens of horses to get there about a half hour late, but once we arrived at The Thirsty Armadillo, the live recording went super smooth. Hosts Allison and Stone were really kind and had some great questions. Over all it was a blast!

Enjoy

questions by friends over coffee – Aaron Garcia @ Mudsmith

I’m thankful to have a lot of friends. So many different people with different lives. One thing almost all of us have in common, we love coffee. So every once in a while I’m going to take you along with me on some of our coffee hangs so that you can learn more about me, my friends, and some of the shops we love.

Aaron is one of my closest friends. He’s an animation student at Art Institute Dallas, as well as a free-lance graphic designer. Most of the really cool stuff you stuff you see from me, including show posters and the ONLY LOVE album design, were all done by him. We’re at Mudsmith coffee in the Lower Greenville area of Dallas. Doing some “work” and having some coffee. I asked him to come up with some questions about things he thought people might want to know about me…

AG: What was your favorite cartoon as a kid?

KT: Droopy the Dog…Hands down

AG: What was your favorite snack as a kid?
KT: I was a fiend for graham crackers, conveniently the snack of choice for every preK, Kindergarten, and Sunday school I’ve ever been in

AG: As far as I know, you’re a self taught musician, what inspired you to pursue it?
KT: Well, I was around 13 or so and already playing percussion. I’d always enjoyed guitar and the singer/songwriter type of music that guitar was used in. One day I was just sick of not knowing how to play it, I guess. haha

AG: If you could sum up the past 3 years of your life in a few words, what would it be?
KT: haha “God does rock-bottom really well”

AG: What’s the best advice a fellow musician has ever given you?
KT: Stokley Williams of Mint Condition said, “Don’t be anyone on stage that you wouldn’t want to be off the stage”

AG: what was the best show you’ve ever been to?
KT: Feist at the Palladium in Dallas. Man…So freaking good

AG: You’ve been to a lot of cities, what is it about Dallas that you love?
KT: I’ve been to a lot of great cities that are awesome “big cities” but lack a certain kind of personal connection. In Dallas, so far I haven’t had to sacrifice one for the other. I really appreciate that.

Fun stuff.

-Love
